This collection explores wild coastlines where sea and land collide, carving rock into forms that are both raw and quietly beautiful.
Each piece begins with texture and contour, then layered through acrylic paint mixed with sand and dust, scraped and carved using found objects. This process brings the physicality of the landscape directly onto the canvas.
The colours are shaped by emotional memory and a deep connection to place. It reflects how coastlines hold both turbulence and tenderness. At times, they are restless and stormy, and at other times calm and intimate.

Beneath is a quiet descent into deep water, where rock forms lie hidden beneath the surface, but slowly shaped by the steady pull of water and time.
Acrylic and mixed media on canvas board
594 x 841 mm
This piece is a study in erosion - not just as subject, but as process. Inspired by deep marks carved into rock, it explores how landscapes are gradually worn down.

Erosion was created by layers of paint that were built up, blackened, then scraped and scratched back to reveal the fractured, raw forms beneath. Like erosion itself, the process is slow but relentless - leaving only the essential.
Acrylic on canvas
841 x 594 mm
A quiet meeting of opposites where volcanic rock, once fire, is now darkened and weathered by sea. The forms rise vertically, softened by the organic rhythm of water.

Acrylic on canvas board
310 x 310 mm
Rooted is inspired by the seasonal transformation of coastlines. It explores organic form and fading colour to reflect the natural, yet often dramatic, shifts that come with change.

about the artist
Nim is a British Sri Lankan landscape painter based in London.
Her work is shaped by the contrast between the tropical landscapes of her heritage and the cold, rugged terrain of the UK where she grew up.
She paints not the exact features of a place, but how it makes her feel. Her practice is rooted in the Sinhalese idea of Sundara (සුන්දර) which translates as a quiet unfolding beauty.
Each piece begins with texture and contour. These fragments then evolve into layers with colour that speaks more to mood, inviting the viewer into a different kind of emotional terrain.
Nim studied Architecture at the University of Cambridge, and her eye for space, form, and rhythm continues to shape how she builds her paintings.
